LOWER ALABAMA LACROSSE

Lower Alabama Lacrosse

BOARD MEMBERS 2023 - 2024

Cathy DeLaGarza
President

Cathy became involved with lacrosse when her youngest son, Joseph, began playing for Lower Alabama Lacrosse in the 3rd grade in 2017.  She started volunteering as a team mom and over the years her involvement has grown into her current role as president of the board.  In the same manner, her love of lacrosse, the ideals of honor, respect and perseverance the game promotes continues to grow!

She is continually amazed at the dedication and volunteerism seen every day in this club and beyond.  Cathy is encouraged that the young people in Baldwin County and the Eastern Shore will have a positive attitude to learn and thrive through the sport of lacrosse.  Her ultimate goal is to see lacrosse sanctioned as a sport in the state of Alabama, and widely available for any young person to pursue and play.

Barbara "B" Rudolph
Vice-President
Youth Coordinator

A transplant from Memphis, TN., Barbara and her husband, Steve, first became aware of lacrosse in 1997 when it was introduced as a club sport at the youth level. Their middle son took an instant liking to the fast-paced action and quickly developed a deep passion for the sport. He went on to play NCAA Division II at Limestone College & later club ball for The University of Tennessee, before stepping into the coaching arena. Working along with his dad in both feeder and high school programs in the Memphis area they helped develop and grow the sport in the state of Tennessee. All of this gave their family the opportunity to experience lacrosse on multiple levels from the Northeast to the deep South. Steve and Barbara moved to Fairhope, AL in 2014 and were thrilled to see a lax goal here! They registered their grandson, KJ, in 2017 as soon as he was old enough to play. The very next year Barbara began volunteering as a team mom and Steve stepped back into a coaching role the year after. She joined the LAL Board as secretary in 2019 and accepted the vice president role in the fall of 2022. She is excited to be a part of the growth of this great game in Alabama and looks forward to the day it is sanctioned by the AHSAA.

Beth Ann Mills
Secretary

Beth Ann Mills joined the Lower Alabama Lacrosse Board in 2023 serving in the role of Secretary. Her son, Landon, joined the Bayhawks the previous year and has found a passion for lacrosse. When their son started his lacrosse career, they knew very little about the sport, but as the year progressed the whole family learned a lot and found a love for the sport. Being a part of the Bayhawks family has been a positive experience not only for their son but the whole family as well. She is looking forward to continuing serving on the LAL board.

Lesli Poore
Treasurer

Lesli S. Poore currently serves as the treasurer for Lower Alabama Lacrosse. She is the mother of Reese, who graduated in 2023 and played with LAL as D-pole. Her daughter Ally is a rising junior and plays all positions, including goalie, for the Lady Bayhawks. This is her first year serving on the board and like most in gulf region, when Reese and Ally began playing lacrosse in 2015, she knew nothing about the sport but it has become her favorite.

Azura Vickers

Azura Vickers is currently in her second year as the Registrar for Lower Alabama Lacrosse. She became affiliated with LAL through her children. Both of her son's play or played with LAL over the past years. Her oldest son played for five years with LAL and graduated in 2022. Her younger son is a rising senior on the high school team and in his sixth year with the league.

Allison Hixson
League Support
My involvement in youth sports is inspired by my sons, William, Jack and Sellers. I have always supported my sons and the teams they played on through volunteering. When my son Jack asked to play lacrosse in 2013, I suddenly found myself on unfamiliar turf. I was a football mom in the fall, a basketball mom during the winter months and then baseball was our family’s spring sport. I rarely say no to my sons, so lacrosse what added to our calendar and WOW! I couldn’t wait to trade in my bleacher seat  for a lawn chair on the sidelines of a lacrosse game. I was amazed at the speed and fun Jack was having playing lacrosse. Soon William and Sellers made the switch from baseball to lacrosse and life was great! I was hooked and was more than happy to take on a role as a team mom.

Being a part of the Bayhawks organization has given me an incredible opportunity to be involved and learn about the sport of lacrosse.  My love and passion for the sport of lacrosse has continued to grow over the years. I recognized early on that in order for lacrosse to flourish in our communities there was a need for commitment and continuity in many areas. I served on the board as Secretary and later President. I have worked with so many wonderful volunteers and families over the years. Although my sons are no longer playing lacrosse, my passion for the sport has not diminished. I have seen first hand the good that the sport of lacrosse offers so many young people. I am currently working in the area of development to assist in growing the sport of lacrosse. My goal is for lacrosse to become a sanctioned high school sport in the state of Alabama.  We have so many young players deserving of this opportunity and I am determined to see this through.

Jim Poore
High School Girls Head Coach and Coordinator
Jim is in his second year serving as the coordinator and assistant coach for the high school girls' team with Lower Alabama Lacrosse (LAL). He played baseball at the University of South Alabama and graduated in 1997. He has two children, Reese and Allyson, that have played and currently play on the boys' and girls' teams with LAL. Since they started playing, the Poore family has been learning the game together and his wife Lesli currently serves on the LAL Board as the 2022-2023 Treasurer. Jim truly enjoys passing on his knowledge to the players while instilling the culture of the game. It has been a great pleasure to watch women's lacrosse grow in the lower Alabama region over the past seven years. Jim is working hard to create more opportunities for the team to play better and more well-known competitors to gain more recognition for our league that hopefully lead to college scholarship opportunities.
